It was a sunny day, a Thursday (04/12/2007) if I recall correctly, in that mid-afternoon when I strolled into the first dealership. I strolled around checking out the fancy new cars in the showroom. Eventually, I stopped gawking at the cars and just stood in the middle of the showroom. The sales guys get the hint that I wanted something.
The fellow who responded first was new, I did not know this at the time, but was so new, he had never sold anything at this dealership. Previously, he worked for a Nissan dealer, furthermore, he drove a Maxima. I was his first sale. It was laid out easy for him, I knew exactly what I wanted, and wanted nothing else. Dirt simple. After a brief discussion, he insisted I test drive. Policy of course. Although they did not have the exact truck, but it was close enough by their standards. I could care less. Hey, free drive in a truck! Who am I to argue. So, the test drive was good. Negotiation was very poor, but we came to what seemed to be a fair price at the time. I dropped the deposit for the “locate” and carried on my day.
An hour later, my phone rings (stupid cellular devices). He is dramatically concerned I will have to wait for the truck i want to come in from Japan. In no rush, I disregard. He calls back again the same day, as it turns out, another colour can arrive first; And I should go in to see the paint samples. Poor at best, the samples showed me nothing. Thus my next logical question: “Do you have any vehicles in the colours you can get me?". Puzzled he concedes, and takes me on a tour around the lot. Still very unimpressed, he guarantees me a truck in a colour I would live with, would arrive in three weeks.
